Kürdandan Kabe maketi

Eski bir TV sunucusu olan Stan Munro, 6 yıldır dünyanın dini ve tarihi en değerli yapılarının kürdandan maketlerini yapıyor. Bu iş için 6 milyona yakın kürdan kullanan Munro’nun yaptığı şaheserler arasında Mescid-i Haram, Kabe, Sultanahmet Camii, Big Ben, Sidney Opera Binası, Vatikan’daki St Peter’s Meydanı, Tac Mahal, İngiltere’deki Kule Köprüsü gibi yapılar bulunuyor.

DAWN Paper Model Kit

From this page you can download a paper model of DAWN, a NASA probe to investigate the two largest asteroids, Ceres and Vesta. Dutch Space provides the solar arrays for DAWN.

Some tips:

• first print an inexpensive black & white copy of the paper kit to experiment with
• print single-sided
• make certain that your printer driver scales all pages in the same amount – if the scaling differs from page to page the faces will not fit

Blue Marble Globe

From this page you can download a paper model kit of the Earth’s globe.

The imagery used for this globe is based on NASA’s ‘Blue Marble’ initiative, which created the most detailed true-color image of the entire Earth. Using a collection of satellite-based observations, scientists and visualizers stitched together months of observations of the land surface, oceans, sea ice, and clouds into a seamless, true-color mosaic of every square kilometer of our planet. These images are freely available to educators, scientists, museums, and the public. Much of the information contained in this image came from a single remote-sensing device-NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS. Flying over 700 km above the Earth onboard the EOS Terra satellite, MODIS provides an integrated tool for observing a variety of terrestrial, oceanic, and atmospheric features of the Earth. The land and coastal ocean portions of these images are based on surface observations collected from June through September 2001

From these images we have created a paper model kit, from which you can create a globe in the shape of a dodecahedron (a Platonic solid composed of twelve pentagonal faces). Each of the twelve faces is a page on a downloadable Acrobat PDF document.

Print the PDF document, cut out the faces and glue them together – and you will have your own globe based on real satellite pictures.

Some tips:
